A medicine catalog does not look like an online store: whoever walks in is not there to be convinced, they are there to check whether a product exists, in which presentation and whether it is in stock. Information rules over the shop window.
MAVI Farmacéutica was built on WordPress: a catalog organized by therapeutic category, search and filters by laboratory and presentation, real-time stock, a private area for distributors and a downloadable technical data sheet on every product. After the project catalog visibility rose 80% and load time fell 25%.
The challenge: a catalog consulted by professionals
The audience of a pharmaceutical laboratory does not browse out of curiosity: they arrive with a reference in mind and very little time. Every missing filter or missing detail is a phone call the catalog was supposed to prevent.
Whoever walks in already knows what they want
Pharmacies, distributors and clinics arrive looking for a specific product or a product family. They do not need convincing, they need to find it fast: search and filters do more for the sale than any argument on the homepage.
Stock is the information that decides
A perfect product page is worth little if it does not say whether the item is available. When the catalog does not clarify it, the professional picks up the phone; and if the catalog says there is stock when there is not, it stops being consulted. Real-time stock is what makes the tool actually used.
A disorganized catalog stops being consulted
With hundreds of references, organization is what separates a useful catalog from a list. If products are not grouped by therapeutic family and cannot be narrowed by laboratory or presentation, whoever consults it goes back to the PDF someone emailed them.
The solution: a catalog on WordPress
The catalog was built on WordPress, using the content management system as a base along with catalog and filter plugins, and the work focused on what is specific to a laboratory: how products are structured, how they are searched and what information accompanies each product page.
A pharmaceutical catalog is ordered the way the warehouse is ordered: by therapeutic family and by presentation.
Structure by therapeutic category
Products were grouped by therapeutic category, so the catalog can be browsed by family and not only through direct search. That structure serves both those who know the exact reference and those who want to see what is available in a given area.
Search and filters by laboratory and presentation
Search was completed with filters by laboratory and presentation, which is how a medicine is actually requested in practice. Narrowing the result by those two criteria turns a long list into the few references that fit what is being looked for.
Private distributor area and technical data sheet
The public catalog shows the product and its information; distributors access a private area for what should not be open. Every product page also allows its technical documentation to be downloaded, the detail professionals need at hand when preparing an order or a recommendation.
How we implemented it in four to six weeks
The project started with the catalog model: which fields each product has, how it is grouped, how it is filtered and what is shown on each product page. With that base closed, the rest was assembly and fine-tuning.
The goal is for professionals to solve the query in the catalog instead of having to call.
Catalog data model first
Before building anything we defined the therapeutic categories, the filters by laboratory and presentation, the fields of each product and which documentation is downloaded from the product page. Changing that model later means rebuilding the whole catalog, so it was closed at the start.
Measuring visibility and load time
A catalog with hundreds of references and their images is heavy by nature, so load was measured from day one alongside visibility: more products found and less waiting. Both indicators were tracked during the project so as not to win one at the expense of the other.
Results
The catalog was delivered with the structure by therapeutic category, search and filters running, stock visible and the distributor area working. These were the needs of the project and how they were solved:
| Need | How it was solved |
| Finding a product among hundreds of references | Structure by therapeutic category and search with filters by laboratory and presentation |
| Knowing availability without having to call | Real-time stock visible in the catalog |
| Giving professionals technical information | Downloadable technical data sheet on every product |
| Serving distributors without exposing terms | Private distributor area separated from the public catalog |
| Keeping the catalog fast | Optimized loading: 25% less time |
The measured results of the project: catalog visibility rose 80% and load time fell 25%. Both figures hold each other up: the faster it opens and the easier a product is to find, the more the catalog gets used instead of the phone.
What a professional product catalog needs
If your catalog is consulted by professionals rather than end consumers, these are the points that decide whether the tool gets used:
- Structure by family or category, so the catalog can be browsed without knowing the exact reference.
- Search and filters by the criteria products are actually requested with: laboratory, presentation, family.
- Stock visible in real time, the information that avoids the call and sustains trust in the catalog.
- A downloadable technical data sheet on every product, so professionals have it at hand when they need it.
- A private area for distributors, where whatever should not be open to anyone lives.
- Fast loading with hundreds of references and images, because a slow catalog is abandoned before finding anything.
If your catalog is consulted by professionals and you want it to answer queries without phone calls, our WordPress development page explains how we work, and you can write to us to go through it together.
Frequently asked questions
Why is a medicine catalog not a regular online store?
Because whoever walks in is not buying on impulse: they are a professional (pharmacy, distributor, clinic) looking for a specific product and needing to know whether it is in stock, in which presentation and with what documentation. Stock and the technical data sheet matter more than the shop window, and the catalog has to answer that on the first screen.
What does a private distributor area add?
It separates what anyone can see from what only belongs to a professional. The public catalog shows the product and its information; the private area concentrates what should not be open, such as commercial terms or working documentation, without having to send it around by email.
How is stock kept up to date?
The stock shown has to match real inventory: if the catalog advertises availability that is not there, professionals stop trusting it and pick up the phone, which is exactly what the catalog was meant to avoid. Keeping it synchronized is part of the project, not a later task.
How long does a product catalog like this take?
This project was delivered in four to six weeks. The schedule is set by the structure by therapeutic category, the search and filters by laboratory and presentation, real-time stock, the private distributor area and the downloadable data sheets.
